Fiesta Mexicana Restaurante

Kamloops, BC

A new Mexican Restaurant has opened in the former Tangos location and we decided to check it out.  I wouldn’t call the ambiance exactly Mexican but it was still very inviting and appealing to us.  This open kitchen restaurant has not changed much since the name change except for the walls at the Fiesta Mexicana Restaurante are now brightly colored and are decorated with a few Mexican items.

No free tortilla chips and salsa, like you would get before any meal in Mexico.  So we ordered Nachos.  We split a NACHOS PARA UNO - Crispy corn tortillas topped with braised beef carnitas, Canadian cheddar and pepper jack cheeses.   It wasn’t bad but it won’t be a repeat order dish for us.  The highlight for me would have to be the Chili Corn Chowder with Grilled Prawns.  An absolutely wonderful corn chowder that is warming when the weather is chilly and you need some comfort food.  The prawns were grilled to perfection.  We also ordered a share plate of Garlic Tostadas & Prawns - a pizza like dish that consisted of garlic brush tortillas topped with Canadian cheddar, pepper jack cheese, and diced prawns served with a very tasty and flavorful avocado and lime pico de gallo.   The Burrito was very good but it could have been much better if it was served with some fresh salsa.

This is the best Mexican food that Kamloops has to offer. Not quite authentic, but as close as you’ll find.  The ingredients were fresh and you can tell that the food was cooked from scratch.  We really enjoyed our meal at Fiesta Mexicana Restaurante and because of this meal, we are very much looking forward to our vacation in Mexico!
