Powder Hounds Restaurant

Sun Peaks, BC

Sun Peaks Resort was our destination for a mini relaxing family staycation in early August. We stayed at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort and had a chance to experience the Alpine Blossom Festival activities at the resort. As with many of our other trips, food was a major part of our agenda. We went back to our usual favourite places to eat (Mantles Restaurant and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company) but we also wanted to checkout another restaurant that we have never tried before. The selection of restaurants open in the off-season is still quite slim even though the resort has been making steady strides to market itself as a legitimate summer destination. After browsing the different menus available online, it was obvious to us that we wanted to eat at the Powder Hounds Restaurant.

The Powder Hounds restaurant is a small pub-like establishment located in the Fireside Lodge. Their menu is limited and changes with the season. The German influenced dishes caught our attention and their prices seemed very reasonable as well. It has been a while since I have had Schnitzel so even before I walked in, I had already decided on what I was having for dinner. I ordered their Jägerschnitzel, a Hunter-style pork schnitzel served with a creamy mushroom sauce. It was the perfect companion to Spätzle. Spätzle is a cross between a pasta and a dumpling, it is something that I have never had before but after taking a bite or two, I became an instant fan of it. I also loved the red cabbage that accompanied the meal. iLove2Shop ordered the Beef Stroganoff. The beef was very tender and deliciously prepared. I very much enjoyed finishing up iLove2shop’s plate for her. As for the kids menu, it contained the usual collection of dishes that our kids love.

The ambiance is very casual and has a cozy rustic pub atmosphere. As mentioned above, we found the prices to be fair and the portion sizes to be quite generous. The service was friendly, timely, attentive and not smothering. All in all, it was a very pleasant discovery.
