Station House Restaurant

Barriere, BC

A fun filled day spent at the North Thompson Fall Fair & Rodeo can really build an appetite and we couldn’t wait to get back to Kamloops to have something to eat.  We scanned the Fair program book for some suggestions and we came upon the Station House Restaurant.  This restaurant really looks and feels like it is a small town restaurant.  But as long as the food is good, who really cares, right?

Their menu was jam packed with so many items that I really didn’t have time to browse through all the pages.  I wasn’t expecting gourmet food nor was I expecting anything but country style fried food.  I was expecting tons of flavour and lots of food.   We got traces of flavour but we were very disappointed with the quantity aspect of it. Adding a lot of salt to food doesn’t make it tasty and flavorful.

I ordered a special feature menu item, Chicken & Ribs served with their Station Potato.  The pork spare rib tasted not bad but it was very tough and mainly contained bone and cartilage.  The chicken leg probably belonged to one of the chickens that lost in the early rounds of competition as it was puney.  The same could be said about the very small Station Potato.  I should have ordered french fries just so that I could have had a bit more food to eat.  I will spare you by not saying anything about the mushy vegetables. My wife wasn’t too impressed with her Station House Sandwich as she thought it tasted average at best and that it was stingy on bacon and the tomatoes were cut too thick.  But at least, she got fries and had something substantial to feed her hunger.

For our next visit to Barriere, The Station House Restaurant will not be our restaurant of choice.
